Turku

Turku is a city in Finland located on the southwest coast, gracefully set along the banks of the River Aura. As one of the oldest cities in the country, Turku is rich in history and culture, once serving as Finland’s capital and still considered a cultural heart of the nation. The riverfront is the soul of the city, lined with charming cafés, museums, and historic buildings that create a relaxed yet vibrant atmosphere. Turku is one of the top destinations in Finland, especially during summer, when the city hosts lively festivals, outdoor concerts, and market events. The nearby Turku Archipelago, with its thousands of islands, offers stunning natural beauty and peaceful retreats just a short boat ride away. Whether you’re interested in history, nature, or simply enjoying a riverside stroll, Turku is a perfect blend of old-world charm and modern Nordic life.

“In Turku, the river whispers stories of the past, while each boat ride feels like a journey into peace.”

When I visited Turku, one of the things that immediately captured my heart was the beauty of the River Aura. The river flowed gently through the city, carrying with it a sense of calm and timelessness. It was the perfect setting for a peaceful boating experience, and I couldn’t resist the opportunity. I rented a small engine-powered boat for the day and set off on the river with a local guide by my side. His presence added to the experience, as he shared stories about the city, pointed out landmarks, and explained the significance of the places we passed.

As we cruised along, the city slowly opened up in a new way. The view from the water was different—more serene, more intimate. After a while, we came across a charming riverside restaurant nestled among the trees. It looked so inviting that I decided to stop and have lunch there. The atmosphere was relaxed, the food was delicious, and the view of the river from the restaurant’s deck made it even more special. Since the boat was rented for the entire day, there was no rush. After the meal, I returned to the boat and continued the journey, soaking in the scenery, the quiet, and the gentle movement of the water. It was a day of simple pleasures and quiet joy—a memory I’ll always treasure.
