During my stay in Finland, I was in my hotel room, listening to the soft sounds coming from the radio in a language I didn’t fully understand, yet found comforting. I looked out the window and saw snow stretching far into the distance, a white blanket covering the world in silence. I had heard about a place near the sea where a unique deer-like animal, known locally as the helpair, could be found. In Finland, this animal is part of the culture—its meat is commonly eaten, and it lives peacefully in the vast, open wilderness.
My guide assured me that a forest trip would be an unforgettable experience, and he was right. As soon as I stepped into the woods, it felt like entering a snow kingdom. Everything was white and silent, except for the crunch of snow underfoot and the occasional whisper of wind through the trees. Nestled at the edge of the forest was a cozy restaurant, offering warmth, sound, and all the facilities needed for travelers. I took a moment to enjoy a hot meal, and even camped there briefly, savoring a soak in hot water that melted away the cold from my skin. When it was time to return, night had fallen, and a full moon had risen above the trees. The moonlight reflected off the snow, casting a magical glow across the landscape. The scene was breathtaking—so calm, so beautiful, like a dream woven from winter and light.
